Springfield Jewellers Wins Top Prize at Inaugural Business Excellence Awards

The Sydney Fair 2025 opened its doors with the first-ever Business Excellence Awards, an initiative by Retail Edge Consultants aimed at recognizing tangible results from jewelers who are part of the company’s coaching program. Sponsored by Expertise Events, Zeller, Zetags, Picup Media, and the publication Jeweller, the awards highlighted performance in sales, business expansion, and management evolution.

Springfield Jewellers Takes Home Top Trophy

The most anticipated category, Store of the Year, crowned Springfield Jewellers, located in Queensland. The jewelry store beat out Robert Cliff Master Jewellers of New South Wales and Suzy’s Fine Jewellery of Victoria, which took second and third place, respectively. All competitors were members of Retail Edge’s Business Coaching program and were automatically entered; the finalists had been announced in late July.

According to business development manager Kim Ridley, who is in charge of the project, the reception from retailers exceeded expectations. The executive reported that some participants reacted emotionally upon being named finalists, demonstrating the impact of the recognition within the industry.

Measurable Criteria Define Winners

To ensure objectivity, each category was evaluated based on performance indicators such as annual revenue growth and profitability. Business coach Malcolm Scrymgeour explained that the analysis prioritized financial data, avoiding subjective judgments. During the ceremony, Scrymgeour presented the history of each finalist, encouraging an exchange of experiences among business owners who often had not yet met.

Ridley emphasized that the central purpose is to strengthen jewelry store management. “Our focus is to help owners see the business beyond the bench,” she stated. By holding the awards ceremony within the Sydney Fair, the organization sought to bring retailers and suppliers closer, creating an environment conducive to new commercial partnerships.

Other Categories and Their Winners

In addition to the top prize, the jury announced winners in four specific categories:

  • Best Newcomer: Claudia Jewellers (winner) and Villani Jewellers (runner-up).
  • Best Transformation: Fishers Jewellers (winner) and Jade Jewellers (runner-up).
  • Sales Growth: Robert Cliff Master Jewellers (winner) and Suzy’s Fine Jewellery (runner-up).
  • Most Improved: Diamonds Plus (winner) and Fishers Jewellers (runner-up).

Overall, the event celebrated advancements in the professionalization of jewelry retail, showing how business consultancy and performance metrics can drive results. The organization has already signaled its intention to keep the awards on the annual calendar, strengthening the connection between business training and market expansion.
